Test Strategy & Teams
HALF-DAY WORKSHOP
Roll the Marbles! Not Only Good Architecture Helps us to Test Better!
Improving quality goes beyond exploring software; it starts with having a solid architecture to prevent product risks rather than just mitigating them. This workshop uses a fun and engaging metaphor—a marble track—to demonstrate the impact of architecture. Participants will design, build, and test the track while applying the SCRUM approach. They will plan, collaborate, build, and test across sprints, anticipating risks and future challenges. Roles will change between sprints, highlighting how testers often become more critical when reviewing work they didn’t create. This hands-on experience illustrates the importance of architecture and teamwork in delivering high-quality results.
This workshop focuses on the critical role of architecture in improving quality and preventing product risks. You will design, build, and test a marble track using the SCRUM approach, working in sprints to plan, collaborate, and anticipate challenges. Role changes between sprints will emphasise how testers evaluate work. Discussions will explore collaboration with stakeholders, incorporating quality attributes, and the impact of architectural decisions on testing. By the end, you will understand why test approaches, quality attributes, and architectural considerations must be integrated early in development to ensure better outcomes and higher-quality products.

Ard Kramer
Ard is a software tester from the Netherlands and he works at OrangeCrest. He calls himself a Qualisopher which stands for someone “who loves truth and wisdom and at the same time is decisive to improve man and his environment” . This means he is interested in the world around us, to see what he can learn and he can apply in software testing. His dream is to participate, as a good qualisopher, in all kind of projects such as sports, culture or software testing. Projects which add value to our community: he wants to inspire other people by cooperation, fun and empathy and hopefully bring light in someone’s life.

Alex Cusmaru
Alex is a passionate tester with more than 14 years of experience in testing, integrating and validating safety-related railway software and systems. In the past, he was the responsible for the validation of operation and control software and the integration of train control systems. Currently, he leads a team of testers and validators for Siemens Mobility in Braunschweig and is constantly looking for new ways to improve test skills, processes and activities.
